New Polymer Developed
The development of a new generation of plastics will be financially supported by the state to the tune of EUR 2.5 million. Minister of Economics Jürgen Seidel (CDU) handed over the notification of grants for the joint research project. Partners in the research projects are the University of Applied Sciences Wismar, the Institute for Polymer Technologies and the Norwegian company Jackon, that will double its production capacities for insulation materials by 2012. The company will invest around EUR 30 million in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Jackon GmbH, Wismar
The Wismar plant is the most-modern polystyrol plant in Europe within the Norwegian Jackon Group. New polymers for color concentrates, flame retardent materials and hot melt adhesives are designed and produced at the plant. Jackon produces expandable polystyrol under the name “Jackocell” in Wismar which is there used in the packaging and construction industry.
